LSQC153 featured Dobie Maxwell just before the break.
I’ve known Dobie for years. I’ve worked with him. I’ve worked for him. He opened for me. I opened for him….. He is a true veteran of the stand-up world. It was a treat to catch up with him. We touched on everything stand-up. Ships, clubs, the in and outs of the daily grind of stand-up. The behind the scenes of the business is, lets just say it’s a lot. A lot of it is fun, a lot is not. It can be a grind. Road comics need to keep moving. Kind of like a fish. They only way to survive is to keep moving forward. So, when Covid showed up…. it was a bit much for many of us. So much so for Dobie, he has “retired”. Moving in to the memorabilia business. Dobie isn’t the first guest we’ve talked to that has used the “Stupid Covid” year to reinvent himself. However, I put retired that in quotes because I think he’ll be back. Ya can’t keep “Mr. Lucky” down?
Why is he called “Mr. Lucky?” Check out CD and find out.
Oh, and he’s an author too. Check out his book while you are at it? “Monkey in the Middle”:
